My order of Midgets arrived today. 19 of 20 are alive. One looked pretty lethargic earlier but after 4 wax worms(forced) and beak dips in sugar/vinegar water can no longer tell which one it was. So easy to forget just how small they are out of the egg. Too cute.

The poults are from texaspoultry. Feel lucky they arrived in good shape. Just want to get these critters through those first few fragile weeks. So far my luck with poults has been the same as with chicks. Have not lost healthy vigorous ones. Having read other peoples experiences has helped educate me and I think that has really helped. I just try to keep them warm, dry and well fed at all times.

Patty you have dibs on hens after I chose a couple. After that the rest will go to other local homes via BYC or craigslist. Will have to get some better pics in a couple of days but these guys look more slender than the ?blocky BSW poults Steve put up the picture of last week. With some luck will have up to three BSW poults out of my bator by next weekend along with up to 4 Auburns. Yay more pictures. Boy am I out of control. Not really but you would have a hard time convincing my wife of that.

Awww, they're SO cute! Congrats on the cute little fuzzies. I have 10 MW's, some I hatched out and some I purchased as 5 - 6 week olds.

Looking forward to seeing more pics!

They force feed the worms to the poults, kind of like grub worms.
Poults are just too cute. Good luck with them. They grow so fast.

Either waxworms or small mealworms give a stressed bird a good protein and fat rich meal. That combined with getting a few sips of water with just a little brown sugar or molasses can make the difference between smooth sailing or an early death for some chicks/poults.

The worms/grubs are given gently and carefully. Poults that are only slightly weak usually eat them without assistance.

thank you for explaining the wax worms - i had no clue.
sometimes when the trashman skipps us, we get lovely white crawly things inside my cans, i shake them out to all the chickens and they are just in heaven for the unexpected living treat!!
