Several months ago I bought 2 groups of chickens.
1. Mille Fleur Booted Bantams qty 4 Adults
2. Mama ( looks like a Cochin Bantam) with 7 chicks.
I have since sold 2 chicks as they were Silke mixes.

In reference to the text below, I know speckle ( like Speckled Sussex) is a totally different color pattern than mille fleur. Just know, that's what I'm referring to, the mille fleur pattern.

At 9-10 weeks the largest chick started crowing and is speckled. Looks just like a booted bantam coloring wise but no beards, muffs or feathers on feet. He does have a prominent comb. The rest of the chicks are brown/ tan, black tails. Some have some black feathers around neck.
Just this past week, one of the brown ones also started crowing, also has prominent comb but no speckles.
2 chicks have no comb, so I know those are hens. And one hen has started getting speckles.
The last chick has a more prominent comb than the hens but not as pronounced as the 2 that started crowing. This is the I dunno chick. Also is brown just like the hens.
Maybe I've lucked out and gotten some Mille Fleur mixes? I do really like that they have no feathers on feet.

Questions are:

1. I've read that the hens start out brown and get speckled out later as they get older. Is this true? Is this only for hens?

2. Can roos speckle out later, or do they already start having that color from the beginning?

3. Does gender even matter, and would they all speckle out at later stages? ( Cuz chickens are like people and everyone is different)

Does anyone have any experience with raising Millie's and their color pattern?

I have some booted bantams, but with these chicks, I'd love to mix and get a Mille with no feathers on legs. I could take or leave the beard and muffs. I just love the color pattern and size. I also know I'll have to start separating the boys ( chicks) soon.
I already have the adult Millie's in a separate pen.

Im trying to determine if I should keep all boys and do separate pens for clan mating or cut my loses and just re-home the ones that don't have the mille pattern.

Any help, info, or advice is appreciated!

My experience is limited to one mille fleur d'uccle pullet, but I can tell you the pattern changed dramatically during her final juvenile molt (which seemed to take forever). You should see lots of speckling by 18 weeks, and it will only get better from there. At 10 weeks, they're still fairly plain looking.

Ok thank you!
