Mille Fleur d’Uccle

We have a sweet little nearly 2 month old Mille Fleur D’uccle who I am keeping an eye out on while she free ranges.

I know that they can become big flyers but I am curious if they are more prone to predator attacks then other breeds because of their size?

I’m hoping that her speed and camouflaged look will help - she is a cool little chick!

A chicken is a chicken as far as who gets taken. One that doesn't pay attention to its surroundings and wanders too far are often taken first.

When you free range you are taking a chance and the predator doesn't care what breed it is or it's color. If it has the opportunity it will strike.

Thanks guys. I guess what I’m saying is a predator is a little less likely to take a Buff Orpington as opposed to a Polish or a Silkie. I’m just wondering if the MFD falls into that second category. But I guess like you guys say it doesn’t really matter.

I have had a predator problem here this year. First an owl and than a Fox. Color didn't seem to matter. I have d'uccle, but those I lock in the run at night so they haven't been targeted. Both predators took what was out there, and easier to catch. Those that stick to the shed or safer cover are left alone. That's been my experiences this year.

I've had more d'Uccles taken by hawks, than any standard sized birds, but hawks, while a real risk, only kill one bird at a time. That's bad for that one bird!
Ground predators can kill many at once, regardless of size, and then it's behavior and luck that determines who might survive.
Having a very safe coop and run, for every night, and when there is a predator issue, will prevent maybe 90% of your losses, over time.
