Mille Fleur Silkie?

barnboy mo. :

Since a porcelain is a dilute mille fleur, woudnt the best breeding be a porcelainXblack?

Porcelain silkies are not true porcelains--at least not as of yet. They do not currently have mottle bred into them.

porcelain silkies are just isabel silkies... not porcelain... i work with porcelain OEGB... my favorite color... a mille fleur silkie would be amazing...

I share your enthusiasm where it concerns a mille fleur silkie. I'm thinking that one way to go would be to use a group of silkie roosters to mille fleur d'uccle hens... as that is what I currently possess. Other possibilities exist of course as some nice cochin mille fleurs also exist. I just don't have access to them myself. Do you think a mille fleur d'uccle hen could handle a silkie rooster? Any thoughts?

but aren't you just making mutts by breeding silkies to cochins and other breeds...?

are there any columbian silkies...? without them, there is no way of getting mille fleurs... MF are buff partridge with columbian and mottled genes... i doubt silkies have both of those genes...

there are columbain silkies and yes the first couple generation are mutts or f1 or f2.............project birds but once they breed true they are pure silkies just like showgirls are now realy just naked neck silkies

so you're telling me that i can get a chocolate say... serama, and a black OEGB roo... breed them together, then work with them, i can breed out the polish and keep the chocolate color in OEGB...? sounds like i'll end up with a bunch of ugly chickens and mixed breed with poor type...

is that how they get different genes in other birds...?

Once upon a time, silkies were only available in white from what I hear. Suffice it to say, genes are often introduced from one source or another to create new breeds. One persons mutt is another persons dream in the making. I'm of the opinion that you breed what makes you happy and you go with what makes you happy. Its when you start listening to others telling you what should make you happy that you start to get into trouble. Mille Fleur silkies make me happy so I'll be attempting to make that dream my reality.
