Mini egg???

I went to collect eggs one morning and i found this TINY egg! I know it's not my banty's egg because her eggs are about three times this egg's size and a lot lighter in color. Any ideas?

Do you have any pullets that could have just started laying?? New layers usually have really small eggs at first.

A pullet egg would be my guess as well.

We had one like that a while back with our hens. I just called it a "woopsi" and chalked it up to no one's perfect. No idea why it happened in a mature bird.

We had quiet a few interesting eggs when the girls were pullets.

No! That's the strange thing. All of my hens are at least two years old.

sometimes older hens at the end of their laying cycle also lay small eggs...that could be your case

Thank you! Probably so. I even opened it and it was normal looking inside! I wonder what would happen if i tried to hatch it?

the chick would most likely not hatch...and even if it did it would be terribly deformed from the egg being too small.

If you crack it open and their is no yolk it could be what people usually call a "fart egg." Just like a little hiccup egg. Not a big deal. Just happens sometimes.

We call those "witch eggs." Our flock gives us one every once in a while.
