Forgive me, but I couldn't help but have the thought that people who consider and call themselves chicken experts really ought to sound like it on a public broadcast!
Case in point: I really think I'm going to delete the Chicken Whisperer feed from my podcatcher. I was listening yesterday when his ''chicken doctor'' was responding to a question from a listener regarding a broody hen. The person wasn't sure she was broody as they're new and was concerned about her not eating. In his response, he finally got around to talking about broody behavior and ways to break it... And actually said some can't be broken of '' the habit'' because ''IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE BREED!!! ''
WTH???!!!
Of course, Andy didn't even catch it as he wasn't listening, as usual. It annoyed me to no end.
Then we get to listen to commercials for products that his experts recommend people NOT use.

So, I tried a ddifferent episode. I wanted to listen to his experts from the CDC, as I'm a scientist by trade and want to know more about the salmonella outbreak. How annoying to hear Andy, the USDA poultry safety rep or whatever he is, keep talking about the different STRANDS. Lol I know that's just me being picky but when you hear the experts conversing with him and saying STRAINS and stressing it, hoping he'll catch on... Well... Lol
He seems like a nice enough guy but I wonder how it is that I, a newbie, know the breed is MaranS, even for a single bird, and he does not. Smh

Good grief.

Note: the comments about the host are done tongue in cheek. I want some good quality chicken podcasts to listen to, but this show has been a disappointment. I didn't post anything on Facebook etc though I'm still considering it regarding the broody behavior comment.

Maybe he has the gift of "speaking typo" or is not focused on the program enough to catch the errors that he just said. Is the broadcast really that bad? I've honestly never heard it but I think I have one of his books.

It isn't bad, necessarily. It's just rough and disorganized sometimes, lots of commercials to ff through. I don't listen much now bc it's the same experts over and over, so I look for topics that interest me and try to catch that.
It isn't a dialogue most of the time. Andy gets a topic started then mutes himself and does other things. Sometimes his guest will get done or ask a question and there'll just be dead air for awhile. It's pretty unprofessional.
The magazine seems MUCH better, though I haven't read his book.
