They are very much like big horses, only need less space and feed which is nice.
I have 3, I had 4 until last weekend, I traded the smallest for a not yet born foal (I was going to sell her, but had a friend that wanted to trade, so I agreed). They seem to be more sensitive then full sized horses, and seem to need their feet trimmed more often, otherwise I'd say they are fairly close. I love mine! Wondered why I hadn't gotten some sooner!
Sounds like you have the space, so if you have the time, money, and horse training knowledge (or willingness to learn) I"d say go for it!
