Minimum Angle of Coop Entry Ramp

I recently cut out my pop door hole and it is a little farther off the ground than i thought it would be, probably 4 feet. Getting ready to build a ramp up to it. Is there a recommended angle to use for that ramp, also a preference to what it is made out of, is a 2x6 too narrow?

Ours is just plywood— 2x6 sounds fine.

My coop door is only 2 feet off of the ground. Most of the time however they don't even walk up the runway, just jump. You could either make a really long walk plank up to the door from the ground, or make a shorter one that connects to a cinder block a foot or two off of the ground that they can jump on. Just how I double (or triple) step going up stairs, I noticed that my chickens jump directly into the door.

There is no angle that is minimum. If it is kind of steep, you could put little slats or rows of plywood on the ramp so they have traction.
Trial and error! You may see that your chickens don't even need the ramp. I've seen chickens fly up 4 feet, but a ramp is nice.

A good rule of thumb in a perfect world:
Make your ramp twice as long as the drop which would give you a 6/12 pitch and an angle of 22.5º.

Your ramp in a perfect world should be 8'.

"A block attached to the end of your ramp to make a step up will do a lot to reduce the slope (Keeping in mind most hens can jump 2' depending on the breed you could possibly get by with a ramp as short as 4' with a block 2' high for a step up.)"

I put some 3/4" slats on my too steep ramp (45 degree slope) and the chickens have no trouble climbing it. In my brooder cage the ramp is even steeper and the little chicks have no difficulty climbing with the slats.
