I discovered a mature hen (about 2 yrs. old) this morning that had a minor prolapse. I'd say it was about the size of a quarter around, and very wet. I'd read a lot on BYC, and knew I needed to push it back in. So, I slowly began to push it back in and I could actually feel her muscles sort of pulling it back in. Is this a good sign?
After I pushed it back in, I sort of held my fingers over her vent to make sure it was going to stay for a few minutes. When I removed my fingers, it seemed as if it would stay in place; she was "pulsating" a bit, and I was dreading that it would pop back out, but it didn't.
I didn't have any prep H, and it was quite clean - must have just happened when I found her (thankfully!). I put her in a crate by herself with food and water in a dark area and finished up my barn chores which took about 15 mins. Checked her again, and the prolapse was still in. I put her back in the crate by herself in my tack room, and left for work.
My biggest worry is that it will come back out while I'm at work.
My HOPE is that I caught it soon enough, and also I'm wondering about how I could feel her muscles pulling it back in - please tell me these are good signs for my girl.
