Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed

I love the pics of Miracle he/she is so much bigger then the others I can't remember do you know what rooster was with the guinea or are you guessing. I am new to chickens and have not even thought about raising guineas so I am learning so much. and I love watching Miracle grow.

Thank you SOOOO much for the pics. I can not WAIT to get miracle to 8 weeks of age. By then, perhaps he/she will be calling and you can tell what gender the darling is.

I also can not wait to see if the darling gets a helmet !!

GOOD LUCK and keep those pics coming. Great Gads !!

Hi,

I do know which rooster did the deed. He is an EE and his picture is on the thread. Someone else asked about him. Miracle has Warlock's (the daddy EE) legs and also his beard. We have another rooster, Boss, the RIR. Boss, like his name indicates, rules the roost as far as the chickens go. He claims all the hens for himself and will bodyslam poor Warlock if he so much as looks at a hen.

That leaves Warlock out so he hangs with the guineas and has been seen many times mating with them. I don't know why the guinea cocks don't whip his butt but they just ignore the goings on.

Probably next year (these guineas are young) the guinea cocks will stand up for their women.

I am new to chickens and guineas too. We got the chickens for the eggs and the guineas to help with the ticks. They get along well together so far. They share the same coop and roost, eat, and free range together. Sometimes the flocks will seperate as the guineas like to range farther from the house than the chickens. I lock them all up at night and let them go in the mornings. The down side of the guineas - they are loud - but they make me laugh anyway. The down side of the chickens - they love to tear up my flower beds and throw the mulch all around. I lay wire over the beds and that stops them. The wire pretty much dissapears on the beds so it doesn't look as ugly as it sounds.

The guineas are welcome in the flower beds. They don't tear it up or make a mess.

Yeah! I'm looking forward to that too! I have so many questions about this little one. Will it make a guinea sound or a chicken sound? If it has a chicken voice will I ever know for sure what sex it is? Will there be a helmet, like you say. So far feathers are growing on the back of the neck more like a chicken but the body shape is like a guinea. I'm guessing there won't be eggs to let me know it's a hen.

We will just have to wait and be surprised together.

If those are the only two roosters, then Warlock is the daddy. Beard is dominant plus RIR don't have beards.. leaving only Warlock as the possibility.

Every chicken guinea hybrid I've read of never exhibited any sexual activity/interest. None grew the crests but some did get the strange feathers more wire-like on their head or behind the head, somewhat similar to the ones guineas have on their necks. So it may be really true that it's not possible to breed them.

It's fascinating how strongly your is taking the juvenile guinea barring. I've not seen one like this. Looks like it is not going to get polka dots, as the keets are already starting to show some.. Who knows, maybe the next molt will bring surprises..

Oh, that looks exactly like our flock having a snack, with the cat making sure she doesn't get left out!

Very pretty guineas, BTW.

ETA: Are the guineas Lavenders?

Thank you. Yes, some are Lavenders. There are some pearls, a pied Lavender, and two other light ones that are different but I'm not sure what you call them. The cat loves it when I feed them milk and corn bread! The chickens, guineas, and cats seem to get along well with each other so far. Hope introducing the new little ones when they are older goes well. You never know. Any advice?
