Yup. Same thing. Just a drop of food color in the vent opening and the color rubs off on the egg.

oh wow that food coloring trick is less "involved" than my active imagination was thinking... I was picturing those little bitty sqeeze bottles of food coloring and catching and umm.. applying it in a squirting fashion ala enema.....

Hello from Miracle,

This has been a very sad week. We stayed in the coop for several day after the dogs attacked us until it got too hot. Then we had to get out. The dogs attacked again. It was at noon and the people were having their lunch on the porch. One of the dogs got a guinea in his mouth but the guinea got away. One of the dogs didn't get away but one of them did. That was really bad but there was something even worse.

Not long after the attack Rascal and some of the other boy guineas were playing chase. They do that a lot. Just the boys, though. The girls don't play that game. Rascal was in front and he ran through the fence and right under the wheel of a moving tractor.

The lavender guinea that was chasing him started pecking him like he was saying "get up, get up, we are having a race" but Rascal didn't get up. I'm so sad because I have lost my best friend. He stayed by my side most of the day and roosted beside me at night. I miss him.

Little Bit is still my friend but she has started grazing with the other flock too. I graze with them some but I go off on my own sometimes also. Mena lets me go in the run with the hatchery chicks so I can make friends with them. They never try to chase me because I am a lot bigger then they are. I do chase them just a little because it is so much fun to see their little fluffy tails run.

Oh poor Rascal - so many predators to worry about and watch out for, we forget about the ones with tires. What a tragic ending to such a young life. I am so sorry. I hope the dog that didn't get away will "NEVER" be able to do that again. Wish the owners would have to pay for the loss of lives and be heavily fined for letting it happen again. I hope all the bad luck and misery will move on already - enough is enough.

What a shame that some dogs run around unsupervised and cause such trouble...and in the middle of the day! Obviously no fear there.

Oh Miracle...I'm so sorry you lost your Rascal.

Anyone who has ever lost a good friend knows how you're feeling. You're not alone, remember that. As hard as it may be, you'll have to keep on living your life. Don't be too hard on Little Bit, she's just doing what she needs to do. I hope one of the brooder chicks will become a good friend to you.

Stay away from tractors!!!
