Miracle!! UPDATING AGAIN..& YOU GUYS WILL NEVER BELIEVE THIS ONE! (+?)

Just think how close you came to throwing Miracle away! Love the pics and envy you! What a sweetheart it is... any ideas on color?

They should be IB. If I remember right all of his were. Now I am dealing with the 3rd hatched chick....has that spraddle? leg straddle? can't remember anyway little legs go right out sideways...not funny really but LOL sure looks it. He/she is perfectly happy and healthy other than that. So I took bandaids and taped his legs to where they should be...to each other....and I have him wrapped in a towel in my lap or else he freaks out and flops around and I;m afraid he will hurt himself. Any ideas? Also....Miracle and Chickapea both already growing!! Still very attached to me though. Both of them.

Thank you

Any of you who read this I could use some advice. Sweetpea (the 3rd egg hatch) has splay leg. I have the legs "splinted" with toilet paper and bandaids (stop laughing). How long does this have to be this way? The only way to prevent sweetpea from freaking out is to hold him....We have been at this for hours!!!

You can find info on treating splay leg on the webpage linked in my sig. At the bottom of that webpage, there are also links to other webpages with info on treating it.
Best wishes!

Another update.....

Miracle, Sweetpea, Chickapea and PJ are all doing great and drumroll plz.....they have another sibling! Yep last night egg #5 hatched healthy, strong, big...and yes, talkative lol. And there is another egg "talking" so I am figuring it will hatch at any time. The splayleg is fixed perfectly! (I am so glad I couldn't cull him if I had to like was suggested to me

() The zip tie idea worked amazingly well! I still have to take off the "bracelets" but I am really nervous! Those are some kinda tiny lil legs I have to cut these zips off from. I will hold my breath and snip tonight. The middle "connecting" zip tie was already removed giving use of the legs back and they are working great. We laughedd so hard when I snipped off the middle zip and I set him down.....ohhh how funny. He took these giant steps lifting his legs wayyyy up and teetering around. it was hysterical. I guess he was expecting his legs to still be attached to each other and over did it lol. Anyway, they are all doing great. These are some seriously strong gened birds ay? Gotta go, one of them is yelling and wants company I guess lol.,

Another Update!!!

Good morning to all and......

you'll never believe this. Yet another miracle has occurred lol. Egg #6 of the "bad eggs" started pipping. I gave it a while but finally decided to intervene. After lending some assistance, another little peachick hatched. I was 99.9% positive this one was not going to make it
sad.png
. It was weak, couldn't lift it's head, barely moved at all! I was very upset all things considered so I refused to cull it as most would have done. I have yet to cull a chick.....honestly do not think I could anyway. I spent 2 days (and nights) giving it sugar water with a dropper and talking to it. Did a whole lotta talking! Anyone listening would have thought that either I lost it (my mind) or....I had lost it (again with the mind thing).

Anyway, woke up yesterday morning expecting to find a dead chick.....only to peek in and find myself being peeked at! By a happy, healthy little chick! Can you believe it!! The adorable thing is up running around like nothing odd had happened. I am still amazed! It is drinking by itself without a problem. Pecking at the food dish and playing with the marbles. At this point I am going to need a chin strap.....if my chin continues to sit on the floor as it has been, I am going to be stuck that way as my mother always told me (and of course I told my kids..and now my grandsons lol). Whodda thunk it lol. This has been quite a ride I'll tell ya'll as they say down here in Louisiana.....I'm actually a born and raised Mainiac (from Maine for those who don't speak Mainese), but married me a Cajun so I guess I am Cajun by marriage? I still don't "ya'll" and I still drive a "cah" and "pahk it in the yahd". Always will I should think.

For those who have asked, I'll try to get a picture of all 5 and post it. That could get extremely interesting. And probably quite comical! But I'll give it a good hard try anyway.

And for anyone else in Louisiana.....yahooooooo for the rain!!!! Finally!! We may not dry up, turn to dust, and blow away as I have feared.....Mother nature giveth and taketh
away....but lately she has been doing a lot of giving here!

PS. Egg #5, question. If a peachick is hatched with a "tude" is it potentially male? When I say tude I mean when I stick my hand down with him/her, he/she (this will get old fast) puts its little head down, sticks it's little rump up in the air, puffs its little wings out away from its body, opens its mouth.......... and launches itself at my finger to the point that I am afraid my finger is going to come out the other end!!! Yet strangely enough it doesn't seem like a vicious attack so much as a "here I am, a bag of chips and then some, and here I come ready or not!!" It doesn't seem to mind being picked up, just acts like it thinks its royalty or something. Can't help but laugh, its the funniest thing to watch! Talk about a tiny terror!!

Victoria & The 6 Bad Eggs.....Miracle, Chickapea, Sweetpea, PJ, PeaShooter.....and......any ideas? Already have a dog named Peanut (a mentally challenged weenie)

We sound like a rock band don't we? LOL.

I read about your miracle, and am very happy for you. It must have been exciting to experience. I would like to ask the folks on here a question about my peafowl chick eggs. For the first time in my life, I bought three eggs and an incubator from a lady two weeks ago. She told me to expect them to hatch on three different dates. One would hatch on June 28, another June 30, and the last on July 2, I stopped turning the first egg on 25th, and the second two days later the 27, and the third on 29th. My question is this. How long should I wait before I discard the eggs for not hatching? I expected the first egg on 28th, but nothing has happened and it's 3 days late. Same with the second egg...nothing happening. The third isn't due until July 2nd. but I am not holding my breath at this point. I am very dissapointed I was hoping to have two chicks by now.

Any info would be appreciated.

We had a little peanut of a kitten, but had already had a kitten with that name. The kids and I were talking and I mentioned that peanuts aren't actually nuts, they are legumes. So kitten was called 'Pea-Legume' for a day or so, then DD kinda changed it so that it sounded like 'Pea-la-Goom' and it was called Goomie for short. Anyhow, betting you are on cloud nine! I have 3 eggs under a hen that should hatch around Tuesday... I can't wait!!!

ukusa, have you candled the eggs to see if they are even good? You can use a small flashlight shining in the large end of the eggs to check for movement. If the inside looks like dark liquid that sloshes, carefully get rid of it. You don't want it to explode!

Your story has truly been an inspiration to me! It warms my heart!

So this is my 1st peachick hatch and Only 1/7 made it, and all day yesterday I watched the last one as a little beak was sticking out of the shell, peeping at me. For 24 hrs. nothing happened, then last night I went ahead and peeled off some of the the shell but I could see that the membrane was bone dry. Left it last night and this morning there was no movement, but when I picked it up it was peeping again. My heart is breaking and I knew there was no way it was getting out on its own, So I delivered it. No blood, just dry. It's alive, and still peeping and moving a little bit. I hope, hope that he will end up like yours, and hopefully when I get home today he'll be up and about like your little guy !!!

That is just awesome. Way to hang in there~~~ Can't wait to see the pics of the 5!

ukusa, I agree w/ Frosty, go ahead and candle. If the 28 and 30th aren't moving, discard them, and good luck with the 7/2 egg!!!
