How long can a 6 week old chick go without the heat lamp if I keep my house around 70*? One of my chicks escaped the brooder and is missing in the guest/ play room. I know she can't have escaped the room because the door is kept shut. There are tons of places for her to hide, but myself, my DD and my hubby looked all over the place for her. I couldnt hear any chirping over the other chicks, but she's always been a quiet one anyway. She's been missing all day, and of course she is my favorite one. Please tell me there is a chance she might come out of hiding in the morning when she is hungry.

By the time mine are 6 weeks old, they're usually outside. As long as inside your house doesn't get down to freezing, she should be fine. Hopefully she'll get lonely and go back to where all the other chicks are. Good luck - I hope you find her soon.

I had that happen to me and turned out my dogs scared it to death and it ran for cover never saying a word for TWO days! We looked and looked...found feathers and just figured the dog ate him. Two days later I was cleaning and went to move the bookshelf and guess what I found behind it! A CHICK! A very hungry NON chirping chick but he was alive and well. It was so weird because for it to not chirp for two days is weird to me. They can squeeze in tiny spots thats for sure. Do you have a cat or a dog that could have gotten into the room?

sounds like she has a run away on her hands....

Next time we go to the store, we're gonna see that chicks face on the milk carton!
But in all seriousness, I hope you find her soon.

I had two ducklings escape on me over night. They were fine. Of course one of them was a loud mouth, so very easy to find.
Good luck, keep looking.

Still haven't found her

But I will keep looking unitl I find her, one way or the other. I was planning on putting the rest of the chicks in the outside brooder this weekend, but I think I will move it up to tonight or tomorrow morning so I can take down the giant brooder and give the room a good cleaning (and do things like move furniture to search).

I am sure the dogs and cats didnt get in to the room. It is a solid bedroom door, and thankfully so far, no one has figured out how to turm door knobs.

I keep checking back on this thread, I am puzzled as to where she could have gone. I hope you have a happy ending!
