Missing chicks!?!??

Hi! So we have 12 chicks. They were all kept outside in a locked cage and they were pretty big. Too big to slip through any holes in the cage. I just checked tonight and we are missing 5 chicks. My question is why would I they be missing and how could whatever animal this was open AND close the door and latch it. What happened????

Move chicks to a different location now. Do not wait until tomorrow. Provide pictures of current setup and after move.

We need a description of the cage, or a photograph. Could have been a human helping themself to chicks, or depending on the size of the openings of the wire cage maybe a racoon.
Describe the placement of the cage outside, or take a picture of the surroundings. Is this a closed yard?
Sorry for the loss of chicks, i would put the rest in there cage in the garage or sun porch tonight.

My guess is they slipped through the bars. Those little things may look round and fluffy and all that, but their actual bodies are a different story. I think they squeezed outta the cage and became a snack for other opportunistic animals out there.

This the type of situation where rapid response needed. I have concern that by time OP gets back with us more chicks will be lost, especially if no changes are made.
