I'm a newbie and have a damaged duck beak and seeking advice. He was attacked by a raccoon last night, we've Brought him in and bathed him. Been treating with Neosporin. He has a puncture wound in his neck and it's not drying from his bath. Wondering if I should blow dry him. He's been trying to clean it himself. I've been keeping his tongue moist with water as best as I can. I've added electrolytes to his water and been feeding him moist starter food. What other advice can you offer?? He loved his bath btw.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry it's not under better circumstances and that your duck has been attacked :hugs I'm afraid I'm not a duck person but please do post in the duck section of the forum. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

Some pictures would really help others members to point you in the right direction for treatment. The wound will certainly need to be kept as clean as you possibly can to try and keep infection at bay.

I'm sure the duck experts will be able to help you with the beak damage.
Wishing you the very best of luck, I hope you can get him well again soon :frow

Nice to meet you Wendy, wish it was under better circumstances. Maybe your duck is still wet because of the greasy Neosporin. If not you can use a dryer on him at low temp

Please keep close attention to him - puncture wounds can become infected and problematic. Raccoons surely have much bacteria to spread around, they don't wash up or use Listerine. I hope he will be better soon. Poor little fellow.
