A while ago, I noticed my mix breed chick, has a piece of missing eye lid. Its healed but can no longer close all the way. Will this effect her at all? And is it a pecking injury??

If it doesn't cause the eye to get dried out, I think it should be okay, but I'm not 100% sure. It also looks like here eye is kind of watery.

Yea, im not sure if thats because the eyelid doesnt always fully cover the eye or not. Part of it pops away from the eye when she closes it. It seems to stay moist enough though.

It needs cleaning. A very careful clean using boiled and then cooled plain water is fine.
Use a lint free cloth.
Check to see if the third wiper eyelid works properly. It's the transparent eyelid that flicks from side to side underneath the top and bottom eyelid.
I would get some eye drops and treat the eye. Eye drops for children should be okay.
See what she's like then.

Didnt even know chickens had an eye lid like that.

Yea, that inner eye lid looks like its it's working fine.

It's that inner eyelid that keeps the eye clean and lubricated.
The next most important is the translucent eyelid that looks white when it's closed.
This is like an eyelid for dosing. The chicken can still see movement through it and light but the light to the eye itself is reduced. When it's closed it also helps to protect the inner transparent eyelid which still moves underneath when the white eyelid is shut.
The last eyelid is for full sleep and eye protection. It also cleans the white eyelid when it wipes.
To check how well or not the damaged eyelid on your hen is you need to see it when it's shut. That's not so easy.
See what she's like after a 3 days of cleaning morning and night and three days of children's eye drops. Don't give eye drops for more then the three days.

So far the only damage is the outer lid. I know we are having eye problems with our chickens so all of them are needing treatment. Gave them all (except her) liquamycin 2 days ago.

IF, and I say IF, the "inner" lid is intact, then there will be very little issue, otherwise, this poor pullet will be a burden on you, in need of constant moisture to the eye. You might have to make a hard decision.....

The inner eyelid works perfectly so far. Shes had it for about a month (maybe more) now. At least thats how long ive known about i. I asked because I was wanting to know how she may have gotten it.

Is it a pecking injury, or did she jab her eye on something??
