Missing Feathers, Missing Eggs

Thank you! I'm heading out soon to check everyone (waiting until they're good and sleepy) so if it is mites and I need to go that route, I'll check TSC for the natural stuff and call the Dr about the spray. I'm brainstorming people who might be able to pitch in. I can't thank you (and everyone else) enough for all of your help!
take a good light with you, move feathers so you can see down to skin they are fast.

Do you have any idea if it's safe to be used around pregnant women? I'm 23 weeks pregnant with #5 and I'm trying to figure out how to make this insect assault happen
I just remembered, I have read Adams flea and tick plus spray works good. Can be bought at any pet shop or online at Valley Vet or many other places. Again it has chemicals in it. I used It on cats and it worked well years ago.

So I checked the hen with the red rump and the broody hen- no signs of mites or lice that I could see (though I'm itchy thinking about it). I found some blue paste that I think is like bluecote spray, so I put that on her just in case she's being pecked. I also looked in the nesting boxes for signs of mites- nothing. I know DE is controversial to use, is there anything else to prevent creepy crawlies in the coop (as opposed to the heavy duty stuff used to get rid of them)?

Sounds like you are lucky, I haven't had any luck with DE, I have put it on them, loaded their dusting areas with it as well as 7 dust. They come out, shake and a dust cloud comes off them, So I know they are in it good. I still have mites. That's why I went with this elector psp. I could have bought hundreds of dozens of eggs for what I have invested in these chickens over the years. I never remember these issues as a kid, and 7 worked back then, that's all there was.

No kidding about the expense. I originally sold my husband on chickens saying, "We'll save so much money on eggs!" Yeah right!

I hope that Elector spray works for you! I can't imagine your frustration. I'll be checking the hens frequently in case I missed anything and I'm saving your list of remedies just in case!

I hope it's better than the rest. We have been using chemicals and antibiotics for so many years, you can't hardly kill off anything anymore. They have built a tolerance to everything.
