Missing Feathers on Chickens

Check for mites. Look under wings, the vent, and neck. They look like tiny bugs. You may see their eggs better than you can see them. Attached is a picture of one type of mite eggs. May be depluming mites, but I'm not 100% sure since I've never had them on my birds.

Thank you so much, I'll check when I see my chickens next. :)

I didn't see any mites on my chickens when I checked. It's possible that I overlooked them, but I looked very closely. I've never seen them on my chickens before.

Do you have any super dominant hens? Some hens can become so dominant that they actually mount the other hens.
No, I don't have any super dominant hens. Some are higher up the pecking order than others, but they all have someone to peck. Besides, some of the ones in the pictures were the more dominant ones, so I don't think it would be because of that (but maybe, I don't know).

I don't have any advice to contribute, but I have a similar situation going on with my hen. She has feather loss in the same area that I can confirm is not caused by other chickens because she is by herself and has been since April.

Were your hens' faces more feathered before this issue came up? My hen has feather loss on her face that looks similar to your girls. She also has some loss at the base of her comb.

Were you able to find a solution for your flock? I hope so!!!  If you were, would you mind sharing it with me? If you weren't, can you share how it's progressed?

I have searched high and low, but it seems that there's a lot of contradicting information out there, which doesn't in still confidence in how to proceed.

Thank you for your help,
Kati

Hi Kati,

So sorry for not seeing this sooner! I'm so sorry, but I haven't found any solutions for my flock. They haven't gotten worse, but they haven't gotten any better either. They were more feathered before. :(

I hope you can find a solution for your chicken! She's so cute!
