I'm not sure where i should have put this.
But this is all my fault and i know it is, yesterday my husband and my father in law brought over a dog pen so we could start putting our chickens up more. They moved the house they sleep in into the pen and left the door to the pen and door to the house closed. We went and saw a movie last night, and when we were going to pick up our son i asked if they left any of the doors open to the house or pen? he said no. i figured the chickens would sleep in my flower bed like they normally do when its too hot or when i don't lock them up.
So we pulled up at 11pm, saw the rooster who is white and thought they were both there. Put our son to bed, let the dog out and then went out to get them to put them in the house. The hen was no where to be found. I put the roo up, he seemed really upset that i was moving him, he attacked me and i had to tackle him down to get him back in my hands. We looked for as long as we could, but we couldn't find her. Shes black and it was dark out.
At 8am i saw her walking through the yard. I went out to feed her, she seemed fine. I let the roo out of the pen because its not ready for them to stay in yet. He tried to mount her but she would have nothing to do with him. She was all puffed up and trying to attack him when he came near her.

I came out this afternoon, i called for them and the roo came but no hen. I can't find her now. I've looked everywhere she would normally be, i've called for her, done everything to find her. The roo seems kind of upset, following me around and kind of pacing i guess.

My real question is after all of that, is do chickens go off to die somewhere if they're hurt or sick like dogs and cats do?

And i know this is all my fault because i didn't think about it to let them in, or keep them in the pen this morning, so i don't really need anyone telling me what i did wrong or what i should have done. I'm very upset about this.

she was just broody almost a month ago. i've read they don't start laying again until like a month after they hatch their eggs. I haven't seen any eggs anywhere.

She came back, but now she is acting crazy. She won't let me catch her, she won't come anywhere near me. She is so hot, shes panting and fanning herself and shes holding her wings away from her body to ventilate i guess. She's black and has only been to the water 1 time today. I''m so worried about her, how do i catch her?
