I came home to all my chickens missing today. Not uncommon, as they like to hang out in the woods when it’s hot/raining. I soon noticed a pile of feathers so I went to investigate. Turns out, 13 out of my 21 chickens were gone. I only found 2 piles of feathers (which I presume were a hawk). Could the rest just have ran to hide in the woods and not come back? Or would something have eaten them all….

I waiting until dark, and none had returned unfortunately.

Sounds like a pack of coyotes, or maybe dogs. You say you only saw two piles of feathers, but if it were canines, then there should be a ton more feathers than that. They would be scattered everywhere.
The piles I found were isolated, so I’m assuming it wasn’t any type of canine. Unless they pushed them into the woods.

There could be a few of your chickens hiding because they saw some of their flockmates being gotten by some animal. Maybe foxes?
I’m hopeful they are hiding and will come back! They are usually pretty faithful to come out of the woods to me when I call, and I called for hours last night with no luck or sounds from them. I’m just baffled at how 13 chickens could just disappear so easily.
