My favorite hen lost a leg scale about 2 weeks ago. I couldn't believe how much blood there was from one scale.

My wife and I bandaged her up, and two days later, we took off the bandages, and she seemed fine.

Tonight, she started bleeding again. Will she regrow this scale?

I really don't know. I know flour helps to stop the bleeding but I would keep her separated for the time being and change the bandages EVERY day. Don't use peroxide, I use alchol because its cheap and my mom refuses to spend money on the other stuff. Get a dog kennel or something and keep her away chickens are attracted to blood and will cause more harm.

Please don't use alcohol to clean a wound. It's too strong and actually kills new cells that are trying to heal the wound. If you have nothing else use soap and water. If she continues to bleed put pressure on it with a finger. Cover your finger with a plastic sandwich bag if it makes you feel better.

Clean the wound and treat with neosporin and bandage again. She must have picked off the scab or another chicken did it. When she scabs over again get some blu cote and spray the wound. With the blue coloring the chickens can't see the red of blood or a scab and should leave it alone. You might have to keep her seperated for a bit but if you didn't the last time then she should be OK with her buddies.

Blood loss and stress can make a chicken ill. Especially stress. I would up the nutrition for all of your chickens. Chopped greens, yogurt, scrambled egg cooled and mixed with cottage cheese. Not too many treats though. Also add vitamins to their diet. Poly Vi Sol infant vitamins work well. Get them at CVS and make sure you get the ones WITHOUT IRON. One drop in the beak once in the morning and once at night. Do this for 10 days and she should heal nicely.

Don't empower the addiction. heheh

I don't really have anything useful to add. I just want to second Purple's advice. (After razzing him.)

Added: Ohh no, I DO have something useful to add. Wear gloves, wear clothes you can ruin. BlueCote does not come out. Ask my friend who had blue doggy footprints on her rug. Or the one who had to die more of her chicken's head blue because the one small spot attracted too much attention.
