1 of my 3yo hens is missing the front 2/3 of a toe. I have no idea what the heck happened! The girls don't seem to have have scaly leg (though I am comparing them to the dreadful pictures online). The scales of their legs do seem to look 'obvious' but they always have... cuz chickens n'all that.

I've read that scaly leg will deform feet and even cause toes to fall off.... but like I said, if they have it- it's not bad enough to have caused 'that'.
I don't think it's from fighting because they never fight, they just 'argue' a bit- but which group of females doesn't?

If I post pictures of their legs, is this the thread I should do that? Would you guys be able to help determine if it's a mite issue?
I rarely post on here because I'm daft enough that I cant really figure out the forum hahaha

ps
am I supposed to clip toe nails?! Some of them have nails worse than my Dads! :gig

Go ahead and post a picture.

I recently noticed one of my hens with the same thing. Not much, if any, of the actual toe is missing, but it’s nubbed at the end with no nail. I can’t imagine when it would have happened, because I’m with my flock more than I’m with my family!!

I assume it must have happened at some point when I had her isolated in a cage, and she must have caught it on the edge.
She seems fine, though.

Is yours acting normally?

I'm surprised I didn't notice it until today, I'm with my flock more than I am with my family too!
She's favoring it a bit.... but still waddling around with everyone, without a care in the world. If I suddenly lost a toe I'd be crying my damn eyes out and wanting to be air lifted to the nearest hospital. Chickens are champs.

I'll try to post a pic or 2 tomorrow.
Thank you!
