Missing

Hello everyone i have gotten 3 tumblers about 1 week and 6 days ago i let all them out they circled for about 5 minutes and flew really really high i look were they were going they went i waited awhile its starting to get dark and they won a competition from the previous owner would you say they would comeback

Hind sight being 20/20.

You did 2 errors in judgement (but I have done them before you Aaron).

The first on was letting all the birds out together (one at a time is good fishing).

The second was where they were adult birds they may have need more time being prisoner in your loft to get grounded before a release.

Even as much as waiting for a clutch of eggs to appear.

All pigeons have some homing ability from my experience. The question is how much.

Every bird and breed of pigeon is different.

They would try and go back to their place of birth or imprint when released in a flock (not as likely if released as individuals exception when it comes to good homers I found out the hard way!!!)

If they are unable to accomplish that they will most likely come back to your loft in a perfect world.

Do not beat yourself up too much Aaron. Through our mistakes we learn. I suffocated one of my favourit birds while changing her band.

I still beat myself up over that one!!

Do you have bands on the birds in case that happens???

I would get in contact with buddy you got the birds from. Tell him what happened and to be on the look out for homing tumblers.

The worst case scenario is they get disoriented completely. You might check around underpasses or via ducts in your area sometimes they may get mixed in with feral pigeons.

After loosing my share of birds I got split bands with my name and phone number engraved on them.

The band always seems to make it back in tact but I never had a bird make it back yet of any of the birds I lost (just for your information).
