I am in Latimer....just north of Ocean Springs and Biloxi. I was raised on a farm as a kid in Missouri but have lived here on the coast for nearly 26 years. I have 12 mixed chickens now, but plan on getting some PR and BO eggs soon to incubate.

Howdie fellow Mississippians. I live in the outskirts of Iuka, MS about 1 mile as the crow flies SW of Woodall Mountain. I'm just getting started in the chicken raisin'/tendin' adventure. As a matter of fact I just started building my henhouse/coop/chicken run today. I'm really looking forward to some homegrown eggs. My 4-yr old is really looking forward to helping build the chicken coop and getting some pet chickens. He's at the age that helpin' his daddy do anything is great fun. I have to admit that I enjoy it as much as he does.

I'm looking to have about 4-6 hens and a rooster. I just recently found this site and it has been a great source of information. I'm mainly interested in harvesting eggs for now and maybe a hatching a few chicks. In the future we may have the need to harvest a few chickens for meat but for now eggs and having some chickens around are most important.
