Years ago you would have been correct. Today there is both Duct tape and Duck tape.

Yeah but Duck Tape is a brand name and waterproof. They are used interchangeably and that's just not correct. IMHO. Because if I want Duck Tape and someone is listing Duct Tape as Duck tape I'm not gonna get what I want. KWIM
