It depends on whether you are using American English or the Queen's English. I don't know why, but I tend to use British spelling and writing styles, and in those, it is correct to put the period after the quotes.

I guess so! Now that I think about it, I do always put question marks before the end quote, so it would make sense that periods go before the end quote too.

But if you do that, remember, you should also be spelling things like colour, neighbour, criticise, etc. the proper, British way.
