misting system

Good morning everyone , i am really thinking about getting a misting system set up for my chicken run, but my question is does it really help with the heat ?

i just dont want to put a ton of money and time and coop updates if it wont help alot

Following! It's so humid here - the humans would love it, but I wonder if chickens can benefit from this with all of the humidity. Does anyone use these in humid states?

I use a mister system for mine, and it is helpful, but I live in California where it is not too humid. I have seen a lot of posts say it is not helpful when there is high humidity. I have found that deep dark shade is most helpful, along with moist soil to dig down into. Try spraying the ground with a hose several times a day. Others have found a shallow pool helpful for the hens to stand in, although mine won't do that. Frozen water bottles can cool the areas around them. Keep them hydrated with greens and treats like watermelon and blueberries that contain a lot of water. Ice cubes in the water can help. I will be honest, when we hit triple digits, mine come in the house, in collapsible dog crates, until evening cooldown. I have a small flock, though.

yea lol i have 28 that mine not work for mine to come inside but they do have lots of shade and a 21inch fan blowing in the coop day and night, shade cloth as well as sliver tarps to reflect the heat

Assuming the birds are in a sizeable run or yard, one with different micro-climates, I would encourage giving a misting system a try in a location with the most airflow.

Particularly in a humid environment, I would not recommend the mister 'tree' that you provided a picture of. This dumps a lot of water into a small volume of air. Instead, I use and would recommend the type that is one long hose with a misting nozzle ever couple feet. Sort of like a string of Christmas lights.

Money wise, I bought my kit at Home Depot several years ago for less than $20; Amazon has similar offerings for under $20. A poor quality product might leak or somehow not last long, but if you start with a cheap system and determine that your birds like it, you could then invest a quality system (still under $50).

We used this on our tent. Use the hose, let the warm water drain out first. Spray the roof of the henhouse with the cold water. Not a lot of water, little more than a dribble. The roof will cool down then the air inside the coop will drop in temp. Turn off water. You can do this any where there is a roof or awning or tarp.

Yes I have this exact mister and I let it spray over my shade cloth which is 10’x12’ - I see my chickens under that shade all day long so it must be 15degrees cooler or more. The hose runs 100’ from my supply but even so it mists nice and cool. The only drawback is any small dirt or dust particles can block the misting nozzles - I take them off and then using water pressure from the hose, turn the nozzles around and press them against the flow to clean them out- it works pretty well but I get a free misting …
Recommend these for exposed areas- but put them within reach.
