We have recently just got rid of an enormous mite infestation, had to change the coop to a plastic coop, has been really bad, we lost two chickens, seems we are over it, however, we discovered the wood shavings we were using for the nest was infested too... does anyone have any ideas what to put in the nest, since its seems I was getting rid of the mites and transferring them back in with the sawdust - Marianne

I got rid of 5 chickens. I didn't know what to do. They had a lot of bugs stuck on their heads, very hard to pull out. Months later got 2 more chicks. When old enough I put in same coop and they got them bugs. So I used oregano oil on their heads and dusted with a powder I bought at the feed store. Now the one left is roaming around and I thinks she is much better

DE is a waste of time if you have an infestation. Use seven dust. Remove all old bedding, put some seven in the boxes ( a light sprinkle) and put in clean hay.

x2 Use sevin dust. After the initial dusting of birds and coop/nests.... redust birds, coop/nests again in 7-10 days to kill nits hatched from eggs.
