Hello!
I’m simply wondering if anyone has any effective methods/products of removing mite nests from the base of a chickens feathers?
We got some bantams for free, and they were coated in mites. We’ve treated them, and there are no longer any living mites, but the nests remain.
Thanks for any help!

Soak them in warm water to loosen them up. It may take 20 minutes or so. Once they are loosened up you can wiggle them loose with your fingertips. Your birds will thank you once those irritating things are removed!

You mean the gross egg clumps on the birds right?

You treated them at least twice I hope. Poor birds. I am glad you are fixing them up.

I would soak the birds in warm epsom salt water and work on removing them. It is likely impossible to get them all. The rest should be shed in the coming molt.

Thank you all for the responses! I treated them when I first got them, waited a few days and dusted them Again/cleaned out their pen space, then bathed them a few days later, then dusted them a third time, until I no longer saw any living mites. I’ll try soaking them longer and working off those nests!
