I treated 13 hens, cleaned & treated coop WELL (crevices, etc) for possible mites or lice. Can’t confirm. Used permethrin. Followed again about 2 weeks later. Since then I’ve cleaned and treated coop and run again. Have 7 2 yr olds rest 5 years. All were laying. still no eggs. Inspected each well and don’t see more. It’s been about 3 weeks since I retreated. I’m at a loss.
however this happened a while ago even as my other flock of 15 continue laying. They have a separate coop & run. One of our older hens became lethargic. When we thought she was dying we brought her into our kitchen so we could spend time with her. It took her a long time to pass. This was weeks after laying stopped. We didn’t put it together. We’ve never had mites or lice. any illnesses with our flocks. Also they all stopped laying at the same time. Just stopped. No slowing down first. Our four buffs are only about 3 years maybe 2 1/2 and lay reliably every day. Our older americana lays every other day. They all lay. In summer we get either 11 or 12 eggs a day depending on our americana. Age and light apply to slowed laying in healthy birds but that’s not what’s happening here. I’m hoping to get to the bottom of this. I’m going to mix some permethrin and completely clean and do coop again. I’ll examine them again. This time before treating them. :-(
