My hen hatched 4 babies about a week ago. Today the smallest one wasn't keeping up with the others (free ranging) and kept stopping to sleep. I immediately separated it and brought it inside. Not only did I see tiny white bugs all over her but also I can hear a CRUNCHING sound coming from its lower abdomen! Like Rice Krispies!! Although I'm expecting this chick to die - I dusted it with Permethrin Poultry Dust - over 50 mites (or whatever they were) crawled off it - very gross. Also I've put antibiotics in its water - I've been dipping its beak in the water a lot. Unbelievably; in only 3 hours she seems better - it is eating and chirping. Am I seeing things?
