HI, I know this has been posted about quite a bit, but I have some questions that I need personalised answers too.

So a couple of days ago I discovered tiny red and black dots moving around on my eggs. Upon closer inspection I realised they were everywhere. My 5 hens seem fine, other than maybe a bit more scratching than often. I replaced the bedding too but they're still there! We live in Southern Canada, so not sure if that will help. But I need help, I'm unsure what to do, I've cut all the grass outside their run, and made sure I've been checking in more often. I'm not even sure what the bugs are. However my hens have started a nasty habit of eating some of their eggs recently after I discovered these bugs. I need help, I'm really worried so WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?! I want a sustainable yet affordable option any ideas would be appreciated. I'm pretty sure they aren't the leg mites as my hens' legs seem fine.

Thank you so much, Manon the crazy chicken keeper.

*Note, my chickens do occasionally get the chance to dust bathe check my get to know me post for more info.

:welcome :frow Check you birds at night after they roost. some mites come out at night to feed on the birds. I use a headlamp so I have both of my hands free to inspect the birds. You can also take a paper towel and wipe the roosts and see if you get any smears on the paper towel. If you do have mites you will need to treat inside the coop thoroughly every crack and crevice. I use permethrin. I know it's hard to get in Canada. Most poultry dusts have permethrin in it. There are some recent posts in other threads about products available in Canada for mites. Good luck...
