My 1 year old Rooster had mites all over; I've treated him but he is still very weak. He can't walk without stumbling and is not able to connect with food or water on his own. How long does it take to recover from this and any ideas if this could be something else that needs professional attention. I've been feeding him with a syringe for several days to keep him alive. Symptoms: listlessness, closes his eyes all the time, can't eat or drink, acts like he has had a stroke. Thanks for any advice. Joy

Actually, you are absolutely correct! A mite infestation can lead to extreme anemia; this has been confirmed by the vet I saw today. I have instructions to tube feed my roo (I did forget to clarify how many times per day) and supplement with B-12 liquid and nutri-drench; both once per day. He has lost alot of weight; he is very thing. One of my big questions for the DR today was how long and he said easily a week to rebuild the strength and regain the coordination to eat on his own. He emphasized that improvement in a sick bird is generally an excellent sign they have turned the corner so I am cheering him along. Go Frank, go!
