I think we have mites. My old english game bantam hen had a clogged butt, so I brought her in to clean her up. While I was holding her, I noticed some VERY SMALL brownish bugs crawling on my hands. There were only about 5 of the bugs. I couldn't find any bugs on my hen.

Do we have mites?

We picked up some Sevin just in case.

After dusting, is it safe to eat the eggs?

More importantly is the issue of control, where did they pick them up, do they free range or coop/run set-up. Then we can better help get this under control for good and have a prevention regiment.

We bought her at auction. As far as we can tell, she came with them.

Do you keep her with your other chickens ??.

She is in one side of a rabbit hutch and it is located in the middle of our big chicken run. She is living with the rooster that came with her. I haven't closely inspected all the chickens, but I would rather be overly cautious.

I'd dust all chickens and all coops, just to be safe, and because yours could have a few. And I'd eat the eggs.

Some of the good people here on BYC turned me on to Ivomec Eprinex. Mine had leg mites that had gotten out of hand. This stuff works great. I dosed them about a month ago or so, and they are cleared up and so healthy looking
