Mites! (In Canada) please help!

I dusted them with the powder and it's defiantly lice. They have hardly any feathers in there bellies and they are really skinny. I cleaned out the coop and separated them from the other three. They are sleeping in the garage tonight. The other three I couldn't see anything on them so I dusted them with DE. How long does the powder take to kill the lice. Overnight? The birds are really skinny. I wish I never brought them into my nice healthy flock. I'm so disappointed.

I also wanted to ask if that dusting powder will kill the eggs. I could see clumps of them on the shaft of the feathers when I was dusting.

I believe it kills them as they hatch...I read the information on the label again and it says you can repeat treatment in four weeks...I know it killed the fleas in one treatment in my Duck house..I only used it in my Duck house, not on the Ducks....
I just cleaned my Chicken coop and put it around the outside edges of my coop before I put in the sand...You can also put it on the roosts....

I hope it clears up real soon...I hate all icky bugs...

Hiya if you haven't tried it yet, wood ash is a great thing to add, I've never had any problems with lice or mites yet but I rub it on thier perchs and shake it into their dust bath tire, they love it and do a number when I clean out the wood stove, it's not bad for you or any other critters either. For the weight gain, i feed fermented feed and it's really great stuff. Just whatever your feeding now, leave it in a bucket with some water over a couple days, feel free to rob it the first couple days, they love wet mash, and free feed them as much as they want. It makes it easier to digest and they'll be able to access the nutrients better than dry feed. I figure it's like eating cooked oatmeal vs a dry bowl of oatmeal and a glass of water. Anyhoo, if you drain the water off a little cup of yougurt, doesn't matter what flavour,and stir it in you'll have a really good start. Just keep adding to the bucket as you feed and your good to go. You saved those birdies from a life where they probably woulden't have noticed and just dropped dead in someone's yard so don't beat yourself up

Thanks for the info. I've been putting all my woodstove Ash out for them to dust in. I checked the birds this morning...I kept the two infested ones in a wheel barrow in the garage last night with some bedding and all the bugs were gone!!! Burnt the bedding this morning. I still see the eggs on the shaft of the feathers but no more live lice. I guess I will just keep checking to make sure everyone is clear and dust again if I see any bugs that do hatch.

I feed them organic layer mash and I noticed that they love it wet so that's a great idea.
