Mites in Canada

Thank you and yes it is very frustration I am wondering if I might be able to use a gardening insecticide soap on them. I know I can use it in the coop as long as I let it dry without the birds in there. I just got back from the farm feed store and they have said that the only thing available now with all the new regulations is DE which is very disapointing. The ladie told me that it has become very dificult since they have taken away all the stuff that worked. We are in a hard place here right now if your birds get anything. Grrr.....
Maybe look at the garden supply store. I have Elector PSP. The active ingredient is Spinosad and it pretty much kills every kind of bug so you have to be careful with it. I have seen similar stuff at the garden store to kill bugs on plants. Look at the labels in the organic insect control area.

As a general rule of thumb, gardening insecticides that are labeled for use on vegetables to be consumed, are safe for the chickens. In the pet store, flea and tick shampoo can be added to the water so it's diluted, and the chickens can be bathed in it, then rinsed thoroughly. You can also use the diluted flea and tick shampoo water in a sprayer, to spray down the roosts, and all surfaces of the coop.

powder them with diatamtous earth and the coop walls ect . chickens don't mind warm water baths wonder if you figured out a tick bath with dog shampoo ? just trying to help thinking what I would do if I didn't have a farmers store .diatamatous earth has to be dry to work . google it its non toxic but it works .
I am in the same boat here in Northern British Columbia Canada. I have 10 chickens, I dusted them all with DE 4 weeks ago, and sprayed their coop, now they are worse. I cannot get anything here where I live that works and cannot order electoral psp. I have not found DE to be helpful at all.

Hi Fosterfarms. Yes this thread is from 2019 unfortunately, but I suppose it was an accident. Maybe post a picture of your coop and start a new thread, or if you want to continue this thread, can you post a picture of your coop? It sounds like your chickens don't have access to a place where they can give themselves a dust bath? And the type of bedding where they sleep may be housing mites.
