How can I tell if my chickens have red mites?? Also what other mites/lice do I have to worry about in the UK? And do plastic coops help with the problem? Thanks!

Go out late at night...well after dark....and look with bright light.
A head light works great as it leaves both hands free to inspect birds.
Wipe bottom of roosts with white paper towel, looking for red streaks from squishing well fed mites.
Part feathers down to skin around vent, head/neck and under wings and look for bugs and their eggs.
Google images of mites and lice and their eggs before inspection to help ID what are looking for.
Not sure plastic coops would be a less hospitable habitat than wood, but maybe.
