Is it possible for mites on my 5 week old chickens to also be biting me?? Headed to TSC or the local feed store this evening to arm myself with every anti-mite product I can find. ugh. It's like chiggers...only meaner.

Welcome! Mites and lice are nasty, so do get this under control ASAP. Buy permethrin, preferably the spray concentrate that's also labeled for poultry, and a sprayer. It's much easier to use, and less expensive, than the permethrin dusting products.
Make sure that you get products labeled for poultry only.
DE is useless and dangerous to inhale; don't waste your money on that one.
I'm dealing with mites in my coop right now, yuck! The wild birds bring them to the chickens, so it's something that will happen occasionally with an outdoor flock.

Yes, they do bite people and some people, like me, get tiny red dots that itch like crazy!

Do as @Folly's place place suggested, get some permethrin. Do not let the feed store employee sell you anything else. :D

Alrighty -- bought the permethrin spray AND the dust! I sprayed the chickens and the coop. Dusted the ground in the run and made a 2' wide dusted path all around the coop. Then found my 10 year old to be covered in bites yesterday evening -- he'd sat in the chairs outside next to the coop 2 days ago. Dang it. I'm going to spray down the chairs this evening too. Hubby is *THIS* close to getting rid of the chickens.

Rodents can bring in the mites.
Wild birds too.

I hope you are able to get them knocked out quickly.

I had them infest a horse stall of mine once and the poor pony in it was covered in little bumps.

Do you have cats? Be very careful using permethrin around cats.
