mites or molting?

Quote: Wazine only treats round worms, however they are the most common of worms in poultry. You can also use Safeguard Equine paste which takes care of all worms except tapeworms. Tapes are not all that common. Both of these you will need to follow up about 12 days later with a repeated dose. The dosage for Safeguard is a pea sized dolup on a tiny piece of bread, one piece for each bird. Repeat in 12 days.

Both of these have an egg and meat withdrawal of 2 weeks past the last dosage. :)

HELP !!!!!!!!!! My ladies are a little over a yr old and have not been exposed to other chickens, etc. BUT...I opened the nest door today while my RIR was in the box. Although she doesn't like it, I petted her and went on to slide my hand under her for other eggs. THEN, since she had her butt towards me, I caught sight of THIS..........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT AM I DEALING WITH HERE??? I'm a newbie this yr and my ladies have always been healthy...I used DE when I clean out the coop and mix it in with the sand, and sprinkle it in the crevices of the laying boxes. Is this mites....is that a splinter???....it didn't look like the other folicles....do I need to attack the coop and the ladies....with what???

Where exactly on her body is this? Could be from aggression in that others are plucking feathers out. That is a blood feather growing, (a new feather) so don't mess with that. Doesn't look like mites or lice or anything. If this is anywhere near the breast area, they do pluck their own feathers while laying eggs to feather the nest box.

Right above her vent area. Never have seen this..is that a splinter in the middle? Its probably a 2" round area Have not seen any feathers in the boxes.

That is a favorite area for birds to pluck each others feathers, the tail/vent area. Make sure you have enough room in your coop. At least 5 square feet per bird. 10 Square feet in the run per bird. Boredom can cause feather picking as well as nutritional deficiencies. So give them things to do...hanging veggies or cabbages, seed pecking blocks, ladders, mirrors, swings, what ever it takes to keep them entertained. Make sure they are eating a good quality food and keep the treats down to a dull roar so they are getting enough protein.

If any of your birds have bald spots that the others can see, spray the areas of the skin with blu-kote. This will hide the skin color and stop them from going after any bare skin.

If you have an aggressive bird or birds, you may need to separate them out or use pinless peepers on them. I have a hen that I have had to use pinless peepers on in the past due to her aggressive nature.

They have been in the same coop 4 x 10' for a yr....never a cross word. Going to go out and check the roost area. There are only 4 of them I have some blu-kote.. can I give this area a good coverage....

Two of mine started plucking each others neck feathers 3 months ago and can't stop. I think I might have to use pinless peepers but I am worried about their ability to jump in to their coop at night. The coop is about 3 feet high and does not have a ladder because it will obstruct their space in the run. These 2 are from the 1st flock I had last year as baby chicks and my kids will not let me give them away. Plus 1 of them Marcy has only taken 3 days off since she started laying eggs back in July of last year. If I count the 2 miniature eggs she laid as well along with the regular eggs, she is on her way to lay 364 eggs in a year (I hope I didn't just jinx it)

I got wazine but there is a warning label on saying do not use on chickens producing eggs for human consumption ?????

What is this? Molting or what? I check daily for creepy crawlies and find none or eggs. Im stumped.
