Well this is the first year I have had trouble with mites....I hate them...make my skin crawl after being in the coop....

The coop is one of those old fashioned large coops with 6 nesting boxes hanging off each side, and the whole thing on 4 large spoke cast iron wheels. Must be 25 years old, but always been creasoted each other year or so, but cant get the stuff now, and the replacement is rubbish.

Anyway trying to sort this out for the girls, todays I blowtorched the coop, took 2 hrs....nearly set fire to is a couple of times, amazing the amount of old bedding tucked away behind boards, doesn't that state the problem......then pressure washed it all, inside and out...then made up solution of Poultry Shield, DE, and 10% Dettol. All low pressure sprayed, twice after the fist lot dried....

I have also treated them with Harka-Mectin Spot on Drops. Got to find a door frame, writing this has made my back itch.....ughhhh
One of the girls has started dropping feathers off her rump, but look like new one underneath so maybe moult....not sure, but need to sort these ites out.

I have ordered a new coop for next week so if it doesn't work I will torch the old one, serves the mites right.....

So, will see what happens.

By the way, has anyone tried Elector Red mite treatment. found it here..http://www.farmtech-services.co.uk/poultry/red-mite-control.html

No idea how much it is as looks a commercial product.

Cheers
