Why not permethrin? Bleach disinfects clean surfaces, is a respiratory irritant until dry, and will then have no effect on bugs. Mary

Respiratory irritant....and might not get into cracks and crevices.
Do you have birds in the coop and mites in the structure?
Go with the permethrin spray.....I would assume you could get something like that over there?

@Worms7 I'm afraid bleach will do nothing other than clean your coop. I declare war on them by using "Total mite kill" spray in the coop. Remove anything that you can i.e. Perches, nest box dividers etc. Get all the bedding out, I'm OCD and go one step further and use an old vac in the coop I give the coop a really good spray with the mite kill and leave to dry. Once dry I dip the end of the perches in a mite and louse powder before replacing. I also spread the powder in the bedding and underneath the perches.

It Contains: Permethrin 2.3%, Tetramethrin 0.23%, Benzalkonium chloride.

I would check the coop every three days to see if any eggs have hatched, if so treat again. I'm afraid it can be a constant battle against them and regular treatment really is the key especially as we head into spring.

I had them a couple of years ago and used diatomaceous earth and have not had them since. After cleaning the coop I rub the whole coop down with the DE making sure to get in the cracks etc. I also sprinkle this on the ground in and around the coop.
