Ok, be prepared for a ton of questions.
I am a high schooler and have been told I have to get rid of the chickens before school starts again because I don't have the time for them anymore. I have 4 chickens and have been attempting to eradicate mites from them. I have been applying DE at crawling bug poison and Sevin spray to the area and to them but nothing has worked. The population of the bugs has declined but there are still bugs. Now for the questions.
First, is it safe to eat the eggs after treating the chickens? Are there any other things I could do to exterminate the mites? What do chicken mite eggs look like? Should I just have the chickens killed so they don't have to suffer? Any other advice that mite (pun intended) help me with this problem.
Thanks

That link will be helpful. It has info and pictures. I personally tried sevin dust and the VCO method for getting rid if mites with no luck. In the end it shelled out the big bucks for Elector PSP.
You have to not only treat the birds but the entire coop. A good clean out and treatment is needed.

Some mom and pop type farm stores or feed mills will sell doses of Elector PSP. (Or so I’ve heard) You mix it with water. If not I can sell you a small amount out of my bottle.

There is an organic spray for about 20 bucks I killed hundreds of mites and lice with. There is a garlic juice you can make which apparently has a 100% death rate on mites over 24 hours. The spray that I have is called MannaPro: Poultry all natural protector which is like it says all natural and it kills within 4 seconds. But you must make sure that you rub it into the skin yourself to ensure that you're killing the bugs! I drenched my girl with it and rubbed it in like shampoo :) killed hundreds of nasty little things...
