I am not a Facebook user so my mom just took a screen shot of this and sent it to me...

Could these really be mites? I literally JUST bought this waterer 2 weeks ago for my broody pullet to have water and feed close by. It was bought at said location in the post.. I just checked my broody girl now knowing she isn’t getting up to dust bathe and she is the one closest to this waterer (I’m not sure that she’s used it though - it seems my other girls are) I figured she’d be the most susceptible. She doesn’t have any signs of lice or mites at all. I still sprayed the coop down with permethrin just to be safe..

When I bought the waterer it did have some white specks on it but when you’re looking at it quickly it just looks like something got on it during packing/shipping (not bugs lol).

Edited once I realized i posted this on emergencies/diseases etc. this should have been under pests. My apologies as I don’t know how to move it or if I even can

There are different types of mites. Those are most likely grain mites. There are only certain types of mites that are harmful to chickens. Grain mites would not be harmful, but any time you buy feed you should check the dates on the bag.

Awesome. Thanks! I do always check the dates and the feed itself inside of the bag. I haven’t had issues with mites in my feed or on my chickens but I just wanted to make sure! Thanks again

The red mites that are a problem for our chickens live off of their blood ....

Be careful before you publicly criticize anyone , that you know what your talking about and have tried to remedy the problem face to face . This kind of posting is called whistle blowing and usually doesn’t end well for the poster. Law suites for example .

This posting? I didn’t make this posting? I was sent this and reposted it. I was admitting to my ignorance was unaware as to whether or not these mites would be of harm to my chickens. I didn’t criticize anyone and was only asking to make sure I knew what to do for my flock.
