DE does not treat an active infestation it MIGHT help keep bugs away but is also a very fine powder that is easily airborne and very irritating to the lungs of many animals....humans included.

Your roo is already struggling so adding irritated lungs from a powder can throw the vet off the track of what is really ailing him.
It is not bad to humans or animals, we use it in our home and it is just fine. We use it on our couches, dogs, outline of chicken coop, and more.

I will simply say anyone looking at using it should look at whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Keep in mind it is available as a food grade and a non food grade product. The non food grade is toxic when ingested.

It is largely silica, as is sand.
