I have only just discovered this. I suppose we have been getting a lot more birds in the yard given qe haven't had mites before.

But what's a good way to kill em off? Affective on chickens and in their coop.

It appears perhaps all my hens are alright given then take frequent dust baths with some dust-on mixed in.

However our rooster (big surprise) is covered in them. All around his legs and leg feathers.

And we have chicks again. What's a good way to get some treatment going. And killing off as many mites as possible, before My hens get too bad

I want to get treatment going as fast and as soon as possible thank you

Most folks use Permethrin dust or spray.

We, too, have many birds, chipmunks, and squirrels, but continuing to use food-grade diatomaceous earth monthly in their nests and on the floor keeps them free of them.

If an outbreak happens though, you'll want to use Permethrin or something stronger.

I do not use any form of chemical pesticides as they do great harm to the environment. However, mites can wreak havoc on your birds especially if they are permitted to overwinter with them. I have had success with spraying down my coop with essential oils firstly. A spray bottle with fresh garlic oil, rosemary, eucalyptus, lemongrass, lavendar, 50-60 drops of each with mineral oil used as a carrier oil sprayed ALL OVER the coop, especially the perch or roost. Spray their legs with the same concoction. Change bedding REGULARLY removing (burying or burning or composting far away from the birds. After the oils dust all fresh bedding with diatomaceous earth during the day and close it up for dust to settle before bedtime so it doesn't get in your bird's lungs. Wear a mask. It can irritate yours too. Regularly put fresh garlic in the chickens water and cayenne pepper sprinkled on their food. Do this while praying for 2 months and all your mites will be gone!😉
