Mites!!

How do you get Mites off of Baby Chicks? A friend of mine says there are Mites on a chick that just hatched 2 - 3 days ago. I just need to know what to tell him. Any help would be appreciated!

I had this problem. I lost three babies to the mites before I knew what was going on. So you need to clean their area out and wash everything down with hot soapy water. Destroy all the bedding. Burn or dispose of it. Make sure everything is dry before you put the chicks back in. I used poultry dust on the chicks. You actually need to use quite a bit. Be careful not to get it in their eyes or mouths. After treating you need to repeat the whole process again in seven days. Do this immediately. The chicks can die very quickly.

If the chicks are around the adult birds at all you will need to treat everyone. If they have other birds make sure that they do not bring the mites to the other birds. They will travel on you and your clothes and the bedding.

I wish them luck. Mites are horrible.
