Mites?

How did you use the DE? I rubbed it in the chicken feathers--I mean all over. I also dusted the food and their bedding area. Of course right now it is just on my babies who are in a brooder at night and a small outside pen outside. Maybe it is easier to contain them.I have really been liberally covering everything. I was going to try the apple cider vinegar in their water but I have not made it to the store yet. I am sorry you are having such trouble. It is no fun.

i tried d.e. but when i went out at night the mites were crawling in it i am at my wits end nothing is slowing them down some of my chooks are looking very pale. i have also tried a liquid which you mix 1 part to 10 parts but still got the little buggers mine are not all red some are gray looking i need help.

It sounds like you have more than one kind of mite. fleas? lice? I would google some pictures and and compare. If it is as bad as it sounds you need to act immediately because it can kill them. Seven powder is stronger than DE and available at Home Depot and like places. Try not to let yourself or birds swallow or breath it in.

Make sure to dust the birds very thoroughly and all the way down to their skin with lots around their vent and under their wings.

If I were you I would take everything single thing out of their coop and clean it as well as you possibly can and scrub down the whole coop - soap, water, bleach. Everything. Then put everything in fresh. New pine. new food all mixed with DE. Make sure you have dust baths with DE mixed in available for them at all times.

I have used Livestock Dust in the past for mites and fleas and it worked well. I got mine at Blue Seal Feeds. Dust everything!!!
