So my light brahma has mites! I cleaned up the coop and sprayed it down with bleach and ten dusted the coop with poultry ad garden dust. I sprayed the flock down with Poultry Protector from Manna Pro. Made sure the run was covered in DE and the hens had a dust bath area of DE. Fed the infected hen and made sure she had a double dose of the spray. She scared me to high heaven last night when I went to check on the flock and she fell of the roost and was belly up! Think she was over heated I cooled her in front of a fan and hydrated and fed her well last night. This morning har we a thorough once over and found the bugs! Ewwww! I am a new chicken momma--so I am looking for advice to make sure I covered all my bases! Any other suggestions? HELP!

It sounds like you already did they but make sure you have thrown away any bedding and gotten in all the corners and cracks and what not. Repeat every 7-10 days to get all of the eggs that hatch. I would repeat twice to be safe and then just do regular inspections to make sure you got everything.

We did throw the bedding/straw and shavings away. And made sure that everything was dusted and sprayed! I will do it again in a few days. Maybe this coming Saturday or Sunday to make sure. I might even spray the girls again by mid-week. Just depends if the infected ones behaviors haven't changed.

After researching my latest mess--parasite--I have discovered it is lice. Can lice lead to "fever"? My hen is hot to the touch but not posturing her wings out or panting. And as far as I know my hens have been vaccinated for coccidiosis. So what gives!!???

My brahma passed. She was eaten up with lice/mites. Quite a few feathers chewed down to the skin. :(. I couldn't break her fever. I have been treating the whole flock bc of the bugs. No more have been present since her passing. What do you use to keep the bugs away?
