mites

I bathed my hens in ivory liquid , blow dried them with a hair dryer, then sprayed them with Manna Pro Poultry Protector. I cleaned the coop and boxes with bleach then dusted them with Sevin5%. I also dusted around the coop, perimeter with the Sevin. They have wood ash and DE in their dust bath . They seem much more comfortable and scratching less. Plan to repeat the next really warm day.

Welcome to BYC!

I hope you can get a hold of those mites. Nasty blood sucking little devils.

Enjoy your flock and welcome to ours!

YES, mites can kill chickens - from blood loss and anemia - the longer it goes on the worse your chickens will be. DE and other natural methods - will not do much for your birds. You need real mite powders or sprays and do it now !!! You don't need to bathe them in ivory soap. Sure it will feel better but, it will not kill mites. Antibiotics are for infections not mites or lice.

Please for the sake of your flock - go to a feed store and get proper products to use and do it now- all the discussion in the world is just stalling when your birds need treatment at once.

It's been over 5 days of discussion and no real action - believe me I am worried about your chickens - I thought you don't want them to die.

I have tried every spray available at our feed stores! What sprays do you think I should try? DE is the only thing that seems to be working. Why does DE not work?

The ivory liquid was used to loosen those white things that were hanging on their butts...I think they are pupae or something else gross. Also their little butts were dirty anyway. And skin was so red and irritated....Much better now. Plan to repeat soon....although my Buff Orpington

didn't let me pet her for awhile. I did use the Sevin 5% everywhere except directly on the girls. I used Manna Pro Poultry Protector on them. Now I'm dealing with hot temperatures!

Does DE not kill the mites? I sprayed the coop with Sevin 5% and hand dusted all my flock with DE. The feed stores do not supply anything else. If DE doesn't work, what kills these mites?

For drastic cases I have read of people dusting the birds directly with Sevin 5% or one of those farm and garden powders you can buy. I would want to find out more about that before I would do that for my chickens though.
