Hi im not sure if im posting in the right sectiin but i had a question regarding mites. So i got 3 chicks last night to put under my broody hen. Everything went perfect and she accepted them the second she saw them. This morning i noticed one was lathargic so i brought her in and within 20 mins she died. I got nervous about the other 2 and went back to get them and another was lathargic and died within an hour. The other one is doing great and chirppy and now all alone- but my question is could mites have been the problem and will it take a chick that quick? My coop is treated with diotamatious earth and i see no mites but i know there are a few and simce my broody sat in there for weeks im wondering if she had some on her more then i thought? Or could it be the DE?
Thanks for reading any any feed back is appriciated!!

DE will not help with any mites infestation...you would need to use Sevin Dust 5 percent or Permethrin to eradicate lice/mites...mites will suck blood from chickens and chicks..especially at night...you need to treat ALL areas accessible to chickens and chicks..remove all bedding, treat chickens and chicks..and try giving sav a chick, rooster booster and any supplement that may help them to regain normal health...try corrid if you suspect cocci..you need to act fast to help your chicks and chickens...

About a month ago i stripped the whole coop amd cleaned it out and made it all fresh. None of my other chickens seem to have anything going on it was just the chicks that were new from yesterday. One survived and it is now safe in the house and hope what ever it is wont affect it. I have always used DE to control the mite problem and has always worked. (At least i thought). It is a small coop i only have 5 hens and spend a lot of time with them and when i notice a mite i treat treat treat... They free range during the day, but since chole is broody im just wondering if she had mites on her from not coming out a lot to dust bathe (even tho i still see none) ... I will give the other things you suggested a try. Thanks for the info. all!!
